I had a really nice time at home with family for Christmas. I came back here to face the stressful project of getting visas for the band's trip to Australia / New Zealand next week. It is normally a six week project, but I just got the call from the guy in Washington DC saying that everything is done... all in one week! Now I can breathe normally again.

I am getting ready to move to Franklin. A couple of girls I know from work and I are going to live in a little condo down there. I will be much closer to work, church, and pretty much everything else I do. They have already started moving in, but I cannot get out of my lease until March 1st. So I plan on slowly bringing my things over there to avoid a major move-out day. I am really excited. I will have to get used to living with people again, but these girls seem to be relatively normal.

I hope everyone is doing well! Happy new year!

I just ran across Tim & Becky in a Zeutenhorst genealogy... thought some of you might find that interesting. :)

It was so good to see everyone this weekend. I got in safely last night. I spent a lot of the travel time thinking about Grandpa & Grandma's old house and all the memories from there: playing with the croquet mallots and ping pong in the basement, playing monopoly in Grandma's bedroom, doing balance-beam routines on the planter out front, the peppermint drawer, the obnoxiously loud telephone. Good times.

I don't know who was all around when we were talking about the Dykshorn genealogy, but Eldon was right. The website that it used to be at is gone, but I did find it again. He must have moved it to this other server. I put a link on the lefthand side... but you can also click here for it. I linked to the spot where it starts with Grandpa Dykshorn since it is so huge, but you can scroll up and see where it starts.

Gotta get back to work now. (I will finish updating the calendar later when I have the dates near me.)

What is this?

Well, that is a good question. I had the idea of putting this together when I got to thinking about the holidays coming up and how our family is spread all over the country. Many of us only see each other a couple times a year, if that. (And the only guaranteed time is when the Dykshorn Family Circus descends upon Sioux Center every five years.)

Now that I am older, I think I appreciate family more. When I was a kid, I remember that I was too shy to say two words to Todd, I loved playing dress-up when Meredith would come to town, and I thought Paul was mean (sorry). And now that I am old enough to actually know you guys, I am too far away. I guess I am feeling a little disconnected out here, and the only way I get my news is when I call home to talk to Mom and Dad.

So I thought I would put this place together so that we could share what is going on in our lives a little easier. We don't have to post every single day, but if a lot of people post once in a while, it will stay active. You don't have to write a novel (Aunt Milly)... just tid-bits of what is going on in your life. :) (Dirk can tell us what auditions he has coming up. Emily can write about her latest dance recitals. Eldon can tell us about the glory of living in the southwest. You get the idea.)

I just thought it would be a fun way to keep in touch. So let me know what you think.

Contribute:

If you are a descendent of Edward and Margaret Dykshorn, this place is for you. The only way for this place to work is to have people help provide the content for it.

You do not have to be especially net-savvy to do this either. Due the rise in popularity of web-logs (or blogs, for short), adding content to webpages has never been easier.

1. Go to blogger.com.
2. Register your name.
3. Let me know which email address you used in your registration. (You can email me -- danielle (at) schouten.com)
4. Once I have you added to the team, you will be able to log in and click on "Dykshorn Generations" as the blog you want to edit.
5. Then just type what you want to say in the box at the top. When you are finished, push the "Post & Publish" button at the top. Voila! You have just updated the webpage. (You can always email me if you have any questions.)

So come on, Aunts/Uncles/Cousins/Great-Grandkids, join in the fun and tell us what is going on with you!

As far as I know, the advertisements at the top of the page are not endorsed by the family members who post here. Yeah, they are annoying, but until somebody offers up the cash to register a domain name for this little adventure... we just have to live with it.
